What could possibly be worse than business jargon? Sports clichés! And what could be worse than sports clichés? Sports clichés used in business!
If I have to hear “it is what it is” as an explanation or excuse for anything again, I think I’m going to have a conniption fit. It is what it is? Of course it is! That doesn’t get anyone any further in understanding anything, it merely relates that you have absolutely no clue how to communicate real meaning!
This is but one of sundry bon mots thrown around in coach’s press conferences, and as luck would have it, my office too. It ain’t over till it’s over? Geez, that’s deep, and like, I totally, like, know where you’re coming from! Perhaps it was funny when Yogi Berra originally coined the phrase, but that’s it. People expected that kind of “witty” crap from him. Business people, from CEO’s on down, would be advised to speak with a little less vapidity.
